The Area

Picturesque bay with a small white pebbled beach, surrounded by a green and rocky landscape. It’s the starting point for all boat trips to the Shipwreck Beach and Blue Caves and the perfect spot for swimming and snorkelling. Just a 10 minute drive away, it’s the closest beach to Villa Amara.

As part of Zakynthos Marine Park this islet is a breeding place for the sea turtles Caretta Caretta and sea seal Monachus Monachus which migrate there to reproduce in summer. It’s uninhabited and keeps its characteristic pine, olive and green oak forests in excellent condition. Marathonisi is located across the beach of Keri, in Laganas Bay and is only accessible by boat.

The church of Agios Dionysios, located close to the port, is dedicated to the Patron Saint of Zakynthos and it’s a landmark not only for the town but for the whole island. It has an impressive bell tower, the tallest in town and hosts the shrine of the Saint. This monastery also houses important ecclesiastical works of art, valuable wall paintings and frescos.

The area of Zakynthos Marine Park is home to the endangered loggerhead sea turtle, which is considered one of the oldest forms of life on our planet. From May to August in Laganas Bay, you can be a part of truly amazing experience - laying eggs and birth of this amazing creatures. You can also encounter them on boat trips while discovering Marathonisi Islet and Keri caves.

One of the most popular locations on the island surrounded by a rocky landscape with lush greenery. It’s known for its unique water containing brimstone which gives the sea a light scent. The brimstone comes from the neighbouring caves and it’s therapeutic qualities for the body are well-known to the locals who use it as a natural spa.

A charming and traditional village with only 60 inhabitants who are engaged in agriculture and farming. Famous for its breathtaking sunset views and the extremely tall Cross of Schizas, created to honour the memory of those who fell heroically during the Occupation. Steep cliffs, wilderness and the blue of the sky and the sea create a feeling of everlasting seduction to visitors.

A Byzantine monument with compelling architecture located in Anafonitria Village. It was founded in the middle of the 15th century, during the Venetian occupation and is named after the Byzantine, miraculous painting of Panagia Anafonitria. Also in this monastery, Agios Dionysios, the Patron Saint of Zakynthos, became a monk and lived the last years of his life here in the 16th century.

The long sandy beaches of both villages located one next to the other are known for the crystalline waters and fantastic tourist facilities. This whole area has many archaeological sites of great importance and interest for one to visit and its located 14 km away from the villa.

Considered one of the most attractive beaches of Zakynthos. This bay with golden sand and the shallow, turquoise waters has umbrellas and chaise-longues and it’s ideal for families. There are no bars or water sports facilities here as this beach is part of the Natural Sea Park for the protection of the Caretta-Caretta turtle. Some rock formations which are scattered on the seashore offer a feeling of protection and isolation.

A Venetian church with an impressive bell tower. What’s interesting is the fact that the church and the bell tower are separated by the street, looking like two different units. Kiliomenos is a rural mountain village with some houses dating back to the 16th century. Located 25 minutes away from the villa, at high altitude, it can be easily reached by car.

It is a beautiful, small and very picturesque bay with white pebbles and crystal-clear waters in the wider area of Volimes. The beach is quite impressive as there are imposing cliffs behind it, while there are small caves all along the beach. It’s ideal for those who want to enjoy peaceful moments away from the crowds and love snorkelling. The natural health spa of Xigia, known for its healing properties, is situated a few meters away.
